WITH the rain finally lifting, Shoots were back in action at home to promotion-chasing Cranbrook.

The visitors’ well-drilled backs were soon challenging and created an overlap on the right to score under the posts, although Shoots soon organised themselves to create a spell in the opposing 22.

Cranbrook ran well again to touch down but scrum half Harry Barham put in a saving tackle before Shoots turned over a lineout only to see the visitors drive over the line from five metres.

Now it was time for the fearsome Shoots pack to start to assert themselves, taking a maul to the eight metre line, from which Steve Shingfield sent winger Peter Deady away to score and convert.

Despite good marking, Cranbrook ran well to score in the corner, after which Shoots gathered two penalties and Mike Ellis emerged from the drive over to claim the try.

The visitors claimed three more tries but were unprepared for Shoots’ final quarter effort which saw the pack overwhelm the visitors, pushing them back to within 10m of the line and Harry Barham ran in.

With a player dismissed Cranbrook failed again to halt Shoots’ forward pressure and Ellis claimed the push over which Deady converted.
