WESTCOMBE Park battled adverse weather and severe travel delays to make the trip to Guernsey but may well wish they hadn’t bothered after going down 25-10.

They made it just in time but the match was now an evening kick-off and under floodlights.

The wind had died down and the heavy rain held off as the home side dominated the first quarter, racing away to a 17-0 lead with tries from Tom Ceillim, Jim Regnard, and Sam Whitehead, who converted his own effort.

Combe steadied and enjoyed more ball going into the interval and for much of the second half as the Orpington side clawed their way back to 17-10 with tries from Graham Purdy and Trent Nattrass.

It seemed neatly poised going into the last quarter but Guernsey raised their game again with Lewis Hillier going over from close range.

Whitehead slotted a penalty to cement the home side’s bonus point win, ensuring Combe's efforts went unrewarded.
