WESTCOMBE Park resumed their league programme after the Christmas break with a 28-9 defeat at table-toppers Dorking.
The hosts are used to bonus point victories, Combe might have been on the receiving end, but it was the Orpington side who asked the questions in the opening exchanges with the advantage of the slight slope.
Two penalties from the reliable boot of Iain Gordon saw Combe open up a useful 6-0 advantage in the first quarter before Dorking settled and countered with tries from Will Crow and Ryan Jeffrey, both converted by Matt Noble for a 14-6 lead into the interval.
In the second half another penalty by Gordon closed the gap to 14-9, but Combe, now going up the slope, could not break down the home defence.
Dorking had more possession, although they were prone to mistakes and handling errors.
They finally forced their way through with two forwards’ tries from short range, both converted by Noble to finish winners 28-9, and a bonus point.
