Sinclair happy to cross divide

SCOTT Sinclair says he is hoping to put his nightmare spell at The Valley behind him by repaying the faith shown in him by Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock.

The 19-year-old winger found himself frozen out by Alan Pardew during a frustrating one-month loan spell with the Addicks and had no hesitation in swapping SE7 for SE25 last week.

Sinclair played the entire game as Crystal Palace were held to a 0-0 draw against Blackpool at Selhurst on Saturday, something he failed to do at Floyd Road.

He said: "Obviously I was a little bit disappointed going there and I didn't feature. I came off the bench a few times, but it just didn't work out and I've moved on.

"I spoke to the manager and he said he was after experience, but he is a good manager and he obviously knows what he is doing because he has been promoted a few times with other clubs."

Palace currently sit above their rivals Charlton on the fringes of the play-off places and Pardew conceded last week his decision to let Sinclair go may come back to haunt him.

Despite his disappointment with how things worked out with the Addicks, Sinclair denied he was motivated by showing Pardew he had made a mistake.

He said: "I wouldn't say I've something to prove, it is just that I love playing football and if you aren't playing then you are going to get a bit disappointed and disheartened.

"I've just moved on from there and hopefully I can keep playing well and scoring goals.

"Chelsea phoned me up a few times and asked how I felt about it, but I was there fighting for my place.

"When the time came I thought it was time to move on and I've done that.

"I had conversations over the phone with Frank Arnesen and Brendan Rodgers just discussing how I felt because I was a bit upset and disappointed."

Warnock is a long term admirer of Sinclair and was only too happy to offer the winger a lifeline, despite the player snubbing a move to Selhurst before deciding to go to The Valley.

Sinclair said: "I spoke to Neil before I went to Charlton and I decided to speak to my family and friends.

"Obviously we thought it was the right choice to go to Charlton but it didn't work out and I'm just so happy to be here.

"I was at Charlton and your confidence drops when you are not playing every week.

"Neil rang me and that feels good when someone actually really wants you to play for their team, so that was a big part of why I came here.

"He knows what I can do and tells me to just go out there and enjoy it and just do my thing."

Crystal Palace had a chance to further their own play-off hopes on Saturday, but in the end they were forced to settle for a point by Blackpool.

The gap between the Eagles and Charlton could have been extended further had Sinclair been awarded a penalty against Blackpool in the first half following a clumsy challenge by Ian Evatt.

Instead, referee Anthony Taylor decided Sinclair had dived and the Eagles fans were left fuming after the same official decided an earlier challenge on Nathan Ashton by Evatt had not been a spot kick either.

Sinclair said: "I wouldn't say I was a bit nervous, just that I can't wait to get on the pitch and play.

"Obviously I haven't played because I went to Charlton and it didn't really work out there.

"I'm just happy to get the 90 minutes under my belt and hopefully I can progress from there. I thought I did ok and hopefully in the next game I will get a goal.

"It was a bit unlucky we didn't get the three points but in the next game we will make sure we do."

He added: "They are a great set of lads from the few days I've been here but it seems I've been here for weeks already. There is a great team spirit and we are just going to crack on from here."
