Liverpool striker Christian Benteke is the subject of a club-record £31.5m bid from Crystal Palace, according to reports.

The Eagles have identified Benteke as a prime summer target and last week saw an opening bid of £25m rejected by the Reds.

The Belgian cost Liverpool £32.5m last summer when joining from Aston Villa and the club hope to recoup the majority of that cash.

The Guardian say Palace have made a new proposal worth an initial £27m, with add-ons and bonuses taking the figure up to £31.5m.

Benteke, 25, fell out of favour under Jurgen Klopp and is said to be willing to join Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace.

The forward was in France for Euro 2016 but only featured twice from the bench as Belgium were knocked out by Wales in the quarter-finals.

If Benteke joins the south London club, he would follow in the footsteps of Andros Townsend and French stopper Steve Mandanda who both signed Palace deals last week.
