Charlie Austin says he will stay at QPR this season unless the “right opportunity” presents itself in the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old, who has scored 43 goals in 79 games for the west London club, was heavily linked with a move from Loftus Road in the summer transfer window.

Crystal Palace, West Ham, Tottenham and Newcastle were all reportedly interested in a move for the forward, but QPR’s £15m valuation for Austin meant a switch never materialised.

However, with the winter window opening in less than a month, Austin’s future remains uncertain.

The former Burnley goal-scorer told talkSPORT: “I’m just trying to get a run of games leading up to the transfer window and trying to score as many goals as I can.

“Who knows what will happen in the future.

“I have got six months left and if the right opportunity doesn’t come for me in January then I will stay with QPR and aim to get them promoted and leave with my head held high.”

Palace, who has scored just 14 goals in 13 Premier League games before their 5-1 thrashing over Newcastle last week, are reportedly hoping to bolster their attacking options this winter.
