Former Wales midfielder Robbie Savage has hailed Crystal Palace’s style of football, claiming that they are one of the few teams in the Premier League who he would happily pay to watch.

In his latest column for the Mirror, Savage has eluded to the results-driven nature of the top flight, which he suggests has affected the excitement of fixtures.

However, Savage, who spent the majority of his playing career at Leicester City, insists there has been exceptions to this rule.

“West Ham – especially Dimitri Payet before he was injured – have been a breath of fresh air this season,” the 41-year-old pundit said.

“So have Leicester. Jamie Vardy has been banging in the goals, but his teammate Riyad Mahrez is the one who gets me out of my seat.

“Crystal Palace have been fantastic away from home, running at teams with pace on the flanks and with Yohan Cabaye calling the tune in midfield.

“The common factor in those three teams is the imported flair – but let’s be honest, none of those clubs are going to win the title.”

Savage insisted that he has enjoyed watching the Eagles this season, along with Manchester City, Leicester and Tottenham, but that other clubs have provided little entertainment.

He added: “As a neutral, I would happily pay to watch City, Leicester, West Ham, Palace and Tottenham in the Premier League at the minute.

“But I wouldn’t cross the road right now to watch Aston Villa, Sunderland, West Brom, Newcastle or even Man United.”
