Patrick Bamford could be an England star of the future, if he buckles down on the training pitch.

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has been impressed with the striker, on loan from Chelsea, and believes the 22-year-old can pull on the Three Lions shirt.

However, Pardew admitted that Bamford, who is yet to score in six Palace appearances so far this season, is far from being the finished article.

Midfielder bemoans Manchester United's "big team" effect on referees

He said: “I've told him he has to work hard and he has been. I'm very pleased with his application. He's got mentally and physically stronger.

“[Bamford] is a possible England player at some stage, but he has got some learning to do.”

He added: “He just has to add a bit more to his game, as a young player. We're a tough team to break into.”
