Alan Pardew has tipped Crystal Palace midfielder Jason Puncheon to become an England star of the future.

The national squad for the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers will be announced on Tuesday, and Roy Hodgson and Ray Lewington were at Palace’s last Premier League match against Arsenal.

The Eagles have more than 10 English players in their first team squad, including defender Martin Kelly, who has made one appearance for Hodgson’s team.

Pardew said: “I think we are good team for them [Hodgson and Lewington] to watch as there are five or six candidates in this squad that potentially in the future, or even now, could get into that squad.

"Puncheon has got it down and is probably leading it at the moment, but of course that’s Roy’s decision.”

Crystal Palace: Bolasie transfer options must include staying at Selhurst Park, says Pardew

He added: “Of course the pool of talent for England is very big, I do think that Puncheon is under estimated by a lot of people in the game.

"I have played with players who went on to play for England, and Puncheon is better than some of those.

"It’s about getting an opportunity and having the confidence to take it.”

Whether Puncheon believes his manager's hype is another factor - something Pardew is all too well aware of.

He said: “I don’t think Jason would think he could be considered, but I think he is one of those players that goes under the radar.

“He’s a technical player, I think international football would suit him because it’s a little bit slower than Premier League football, no doubt about that.”
