Crystal Palace have vowed to step up security measures ahead of this weekend’s home date with Arsenal after the recent Newcastle and Liverpool games were marred by coin throwing from the stands.

CCTV footage from both games has already been passed on to the police by the club and now body cameras are set to be introduced for match stewards on a trial basis.

A new HD system is being introduced to give sharper images to the current CCTV system, which will produce images that have four times greater resolution.

There will also be more cameras installed, giving access to more angles, allowing operators to zoom in on specific sections of the ground.

Stands will also be monitored from above and behind.

The club are also investigate the feasibility of using facial recognition technology to help identify culprits.

A Palace spokesman said: “We are taking a number of steps to ensure there is no repeat of the incidents that took place during the Newcastle and Liverpool matches.

“We want to continue to allow our fans to express themselves in a positive way, but are determined to catch any individual who risks ruining the enjoyment for everyone.”

Meanwhile, Alan Pardew has branded the Crystal Palace who threw missiles from the Holmesdale Road Stand on to the Selhurst Park pitch as “stupid”.

The manager said: “It’s a big concern for the club. I hope it stops because it’s something we want to take out of the game.

“We have to stamp it out and that is what the officials at this football club are trying to do.

“It can happen in the heat of the moment, but when it happens twice it’s just stupid. We can’t accept it anywhere.”

Last week's incidents at Selhurst Park were followed by racist behaviour from Chelsea fans on the Paris metro after the club’s Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain.

Pardew says members of the public should contribute to helping authorities find those responsible for such behaviour.

“With the incident in Paris you need to use the strength of social media,” he said.

“So if a fan is standing next to someone, film them, take a picture of them so we can try do our best to find them.

“You are going to get incidents and the fans have to realise that it is damaging clubs, so the few people that have let us down need to be pointed out to us."

Pardew added that it is important misbehaving fans do not ruin the atmosphere at Selhurst Park.

“We have the best atmosphere in the country and we don’t want to lose that with silly little incidents.”
