The chaos that is the transfer window can be ignored for another six months following its closure on Monday night and the club can now turn their attention towards a crucial last third of the season.

Palace are sitting an uneasy four points from the drop zone after a frustrating 1-0 home defeat to struggling Everton on Saturday.  A £28 million striker by the name of Romelu Lukaku was the difference between the two sides on the day and it continues to show the size of the clubs we are up against week in, week out, knowing their one player cost more than our entire squad.

However, the January window allowed Crystal Palace to have a flutter of their own, with the board showing the fans Alan Pardew has their full backing.  The arrivals of Yaya Sanogo, Jordon Mutch, Shola Ameobi, Pape Souare, Lee Chung-Yong and the permanent deal for Wilfried Zaha signifies a more than successful transfer window for the club.

With the exception of a centre-back, Pardew has brought in players in key areas and valuable squad additions that should take the club to the next level and prove not to be an Ian Holloway-esque ‘scattergun’ approach which oh so nearly failed last season. When in a relegation dogfight, it’s hard to keep your eyes off of the teams around you - whether it be in terms of fixtures, results of even transfers - but it genuinely seems as though Palace have come through January as the real winners.

At the start of the month, a manager with an abundance of experience in the Premier League was installed, players were brought in at a reasonable price to give the squad some much needed depth and the fellow relegation threatened teams have barely struggled to strengthen, if at all. QPR failed to add a single player to their one loan addition and even then they tried to send him back on deadline day, not to mention Harry Redknapp departed as he admitted defeat with the club.

Burnley added just one to their ranks, a player making a loan deal permanent and were left red-faced as they were outbid on multiple occasions by lower-league clubs on deadline day. Aston Villa, a club in true turmoil, failed to add a much needed striker to their ranks and with a home game against Chelsea coming up on Saturday, they look certain to continue their 612 minutes without a goal.

Leicester City have been slightly bolder in the market, they shelled out £9 million on an unheard of and unproven centre forward to partner their £8 million summer signing Leonardo Ulloa from Brighton. The finances won’t be pretty if they go down.

And finally, Tony Pulis’ West Bromwich Albion. There wasn’t anything more satisfying than seeing two of his three deadline day moves crumble at the last minute, leaving just a 31-year-old midfielder who has played just 34 matches in the past four seasons to join alongside his one other January addition.

With clubs such as Hull City, QPR, Villa and Burnley seemingly in turmoil, it seems as though Crystal Palace could survive by default. A combination of this, mixed with our new additions and the boost given by Pardew, means there is a real reason for smiles at Selhurst Park.
