Neil Warnock has quashed rumours surrounding the future of Crystal Palace star Dwight Gayle by stating that the striker is going nowhere.

The 24-year-old, Palace’s leading scorer in all competitions with five goals, has been at the centre of rumours linking him to a loan move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Gayle is currently playing second fiddle to Fraizer Campbell in the first team, leading a handful of Championship clubs to enquire about the former Peterborough man’s availability.

However, Warnock said: “Dwight is going nowhere because he is far too important to us.

“It’s unfortunate for him that Fraizer Campbell is playing as well as he is, otherwise he would be in the team.

“I know Fraizer made a mistake in the Manchester United game, but aside from that he has been excellent for us.

“Dwight is second behind Fraizer, but it is no surprise to me that we’ve had interest from three or four Championship clubs.”

Palace are without a Premier League match until November 23 when Liverpool are the visitors to Selhurst Park, ahead of a trip to Swansea City.

Warnock said: “It’s going to be a cracking game, but I watched Swansea City beat Arsenal last week and Swansea were the better team, they were excellent.

“So we face a couple of really difficult games when the international break is over.”
