New signings Florian Marange and Stephen Dobbie have missed out on a place in Crystal Palace’s 25 man squad but club captain Paddy McCarthy is a surprise inclusion.

The popular skipper spent much of last season on the sidelines but after coming through a development game against Cardiff City unscathed, Holloway is happy to take a chance on the centre back.

Former Bordeaux defender Marange made only one appearance for the Eagles in their Capital One Cup defeat to Bristol City last week.

Eagle’s striker Stephen Dobbie joined Palace in July from rivals Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 30-year-old scored three goals in 15 appearances for Palace and had an impressive pre-season but it wasn’t enough to make the final cut.

Midfielder Owen Garvan and striker Aaron Wilbraham also miss out. It is expected those who didn’t make the 25-man-squad will be sent out on loan.

Peter Ramage has already joined Barnsley on loan for the rest of the season, while Glenn Murray misses out due to injury.

There were some rumours that summer signing Elliot Grandin would miss out on the squad after a quiet start to life at Selhurst Park.

But it is understood manager Ian Holloway rates the French winger from his time at Blackpool and believes he was one of their best players in the Premier League.

Deadline day signings Adlene Guedioura, Barry Bannan, Cameron Jerome and Adrian Mariappa are all included in the squad.

Jonny Williams and Jose Campana don’t have to be included in the squad as they are under the age of 21.
