Week three of the South London & Kent Pool Alliance saw one of the Premier Division’s most anticipated matches as Rileys Woolwich visited neighbours O’Connors and came away with a huge 12-3 win.
These teams are usually fighting for honours at the top of the table but it was a disastrous night for the home team, who could do little right as Rileys made the most of their chances to go 8-0 up and win the game before O’Connors could get a frame on the board.
Richie Mitchell won all three frames for the second week running and he was joined by Tony Halpin with Mattie Flockhart and Clive Black both finishing on two out of two.
This result puts Rileys two points clear of Pickwick at the top of the table who also enjoyed a massive 12-3 victory.
They went two frames better than Rileys by going ten frames in front before Fox under the Hill A could rack one up.
It was a great all round team performance with most of the players winning the two frames they were asked to play.
Rileys Hotshots remain unbeaten with a hard fought 8-7 win over Footscray Social Club.
Robbie Robb was the only unbeaten player on the night with three out of three for the victors.
There was an early season top of the table clash in the SLKPA Division One where Rileys Rovers hosted Glenmore Arms A.
Rovers stormed to a 3-0 lead but Glenmore pulled it back to 3-2 with an excellent break and dish from Paul Thomas.
The outcome of the next three frames made the score 4-4 but Ryan Francis pulled out a magnificent ‘7-baller’ for his second of three wins for the home side and Jeff Kingman won his second battle of the night with Steven Reed to make it level again.
James Grant won his second frame for Glenmore on the night and they won the next frame to need only one more for the match but Rovers won the next two frames to tie the match again, with Francis achieving three out of three for the third week running.
It was left to Reed or Barry Barham to win the tight deciding frame and after Reed rattled a long black, Barham slotted it away to secure the win for Glenmore.
Despite the defeat Rovers are two points ahead of New Eltham Social Club, who went into second after a 9-6 win over Bellegrove Social Club B.
Tony Frost won another three frames for New Eltham to make it six out of six for him so far this season.
Beech Tree Nuthouse secured their first win of the season after beating Fox under the Hill B 9 frames to 6.
They went 4-1 up after the first set but the next two were a lot closer with each side winning one 3-2.
Father and daughter, Tom and Kerry Wyatt helped to make the score more respectable for Fox, both achieving two out of two but Beech Tree’s Shane O’Reilly and Craig Jones went one better with three out of three while Julie Lancaster earned a creditable two wins from her three frames.
It appears 12-3 was the score of the night as two teams from SLKPA Division Two followed the two teams from the Premier Division in reaching that score line.
Rileys Rebels went to the top of the table unbeaten with their 12-3 win over Porcupine, although it wasn’t all plain sailing as Porcupine took a 3-1 lead.
Alex Biggs and Lewis Wilborne were the inspiration behind the comeback with three wins each.
Summerfield also remain unbeaten and are three points behind Rebels after their 12-3 victory over new boys North Heath Social Club.
Youngster Steven Adams was the player of the night in Life of Rileys 9-6 victory over Pickwick Academicals with his three frame wins.
Finally Fanny on the Hill couldn’t field a team so Crown picked up the points in the forfeit match.
