GRAVESEND Cycling Club’s Richard Bettaney is continuing his successful season by stepping up to the senior second category.

Although finding it much harder than previously, Bettaney has finished 14th and ninth in his last two races.

As he gets more used to the harder level of racing, the GCC member will undoubtedly become more successful.

He continues to ride his mountain bike competitively, competing in the national master mountain bike race in Essex where he finished 11th, a really good result as he was riding against much younger and higher category riders.

The Gravesend Evening 10-mile time trial races continue.

In the first race of this section Jason Tibbs recorded 23.28, Luke Harrington 26.22, Steve Harrington 26.43, Keith Ward 27.59, Chris Bramley 29.09, Mike Harrington 30.03 and Dave Barclay 30.37.

Times for the next race were: Tibbs 23.36, L Harrington 26.56, S Harrington 27.11, Ward 27.55, Coulter 28.33, Barclay 29.16 and M Harrington.

For the last race road works meant the course was shortened to 9.65 miles and results were: Tibbs 22.23, L Harrington 25.27, Ward 26.22 and Barclay 27.13.

Club members riding in other events have been Andy Gibson, who rode his first 50-mile race in 2.17.22 but also recorded 23.54 in the CC Bexley 10.

Tibbs and Neil Harrigan road the Farnham CC Two Up time-trial in appalling conditions to record 58.08.

Last Saturday an Open 10 (9.65) saw riders from all over the county competing, with Gravesend’s L Harrington recording 26.09 and Ward 28.00.
