AN INITIATIVE to encourage the people of Kent to take up sport is set to be launched between the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Join in local sport aims to get the people of Kent to head down to where it starts for every great champion – their sports club or sports facility.

This will build on the fantastic success of the Join in initiative for the London 2012 Games.

The aim of Join in is for every sports club or sports facility in the UK to put on a special event or activity on the weekend of August19 and August 19, capturing the enthusiasm for sport that we know the Games will generate.

Oona Muirhead, LOCOG nations and regions member for the south east, said: “Whether a sports club wants to sign up new members, supporters or volunteers, this is a fantastic opportunity for the clubs in Kent to attract people both young and old to join in.

“We want to encourage all sports clubs in Kent to get their thinking caps on and create an unmissable event for their community.

“We want events to be low-cost and simple to run and the team at Join in will be able to give ideas, support and practical advice to help plan the day.”

Clubs and facilities that decide to put on an event can expect substantial help from the dedicated and experienced team at Join in, including marketing, social media and PR support to help publicise the event and get as many people down as possible.
