THE north west Kent table tennis league celebrated its divisional tournaments finals night at VCD Athletic in Crayford.

Bexley mayor Ray Sams was on hand to present the trophies see the league for first time in several years put on a finals night for all divisions.

Peter Davis and Lloyd Francis came from two sets to one down to beat Richard Farthing and Mike Higgitt 11-7, 9-11, 4-11, 11-8, 11-9 in the closest match of the evening for the division one doubles crown.

Other highlights included 12-year-old Robert Stewart winning the division three singles against Alex Kolesnikov (11-7, 11-5, 11-2), as well as partnering Cyril Melville to claim the division three doubles crown with a 11-8, 11-4, 11-9 success over Lorraine Perryman and Peter Mills.

The prestigious division one singles final was won by Peter Ives, who also finished top of the top division’s averages for the season, beating 14-year-old Tom Windram 11-9, 11-5, 11-8.

In the division two doubles, Brian Busbridge and Richard Nash combined to see off Farhang Fazeli and Dave Crocker 11-5, 11-2, 11-5.

Farhang Fazeli became the division two singles champion by beating Mike Flatley 17-15, 12-10, 11-7.
