KENT Exiles went down to a 42-6 defeat at East Kent Mavericks in Canterbury.

They trailed 14-6 at the break with Zac Ritchie providing the pass to Rob Welling for their only touchdown.

Having done the hard work, though, the Exiles self destructed in the second half, more mistakes gifting the Mavericks good field position on several occasions and before the end of the third quarter the game was out of reach.

With the hosts out of sight, Exiles coach Tony Bainbridge changed tactics in the fourth period, which saw better play on the offence and must have given him food for thought for their next game.

Kent Exiles are without a game this week but are at home to Essex Spartans the following weekend.
