THE heavy hitters of the Delphi British truck racing championship thunder into Brands Hatch later this month for one of the north Kent circuit’s most popular family events.

Following a spectacular start to the season provided by the British touring car championship and MCE British Superbike championship at Brands, the 1,000 bhp racing trucks will be going all out to provide the same level of entertainment.

Last year’s double-header of events were spectacular to say the least with superb racing and incidents aplenty on the short Indy circuit.

These trucks can remarkably out-drag a Porsche 911 to 100 mph and corner with astonishing agility, more often than not with the rear dragging behind in a spectacular power slide.

Racing trucks aren’t afraid of a bit of body contact, and the sight of these leviathans plunging into Paddock Hill Bend is something to behold.

West Kingsdown-based brothers Steven, Graham and John Powell all compete in the British truck racing championship and will be hoping to give 2011 champion Dave Jenkins a run for his money.

Dutch drivers Cees Zandbergen, Marco Donk and newcomer Frans Smit will all make the journey to Brands especially for the event on April 21 and April 22.

A total of four scintillating truck races will take place on the Sunday and with a superb support package including saloon cars, pickup trucks, Caterhams and the comparatively miniscule Legends, there really is something for all tastes.

There are also plenty of off track highlights with the Brands Hatch Fun Zone, featuring mini diggers, free face painting, a bouncy castle, Warzone laser games, a soft play bus, Formula Fun cars and bumper cars.

Brands Hatch’s Go Kart circuit will also be in operation while a fun family disco will take place in the Kentagon restaurant on Saturday evening.

Tickets are available in advance for just £17 with free admission for children aged 12 and under.
