TSUKURU Judo Academy in Bexleyheath have enjoyed some impressive results recently.

First up was the Harlow Treble T competition on March 24 where seven-year-old Luca Cross threw his opponent with a shoulder throw to claim gold.

Teddy Gibbons, eight, was taking part in the heavyweight and battled his way through to the final and a silver medal.

Daniel Peters was the most experienced club member in action and he overcame illness to produce good wins on his way to a bronze medal.

The following Saturday saw a trio of Tsukuru members take part in the Bushido judo friendly competition, including complete novice Liam Mageria and experienced novice Joe Brandon.

Joe threw all of his opponents backwards and forwards to obtain a place in the final, winning silver.

Liam showed the real spirit of judo and emerged a very happy silver medal winner.

Young yellow belt Sam Fisher created the throw of the day and left the crowds roaring with delight on his way to gold.

The following day at the Kent closed judo championships there were four club members in action.

Tom Fisher won gold to book a place in the Kent squad, as did Mason Doyle, who was the Bexleyheath side’s lowest graded competitor with a red belt.

Brayden Quinn, who is on the national squad training programme, won all of his fights and successfully retaining his gold medal for the second consecutive year. Despite nursing a shoulder injury, senior player Lucy Brandon competed well against a higher graded rival to come away with silver.

Assistant coach Chris Ronayne said: “I am really proud of all our players and the way they are all progressing so well.”
