AFTER a two-week break, Westcombe Park returned to action with a spirited display in Saturday’s defeat at leaders Richmond.
It was an enthralling match which turned the form book on its head for long periods, although the atrocious weather conditions had some influence.
Combe competed on equal terms in most areas, except perhaps at the scrums.
It was not a day for running rugby, much of the play was confined between the 22s, and the game was peppered with penalties.
Ryan Fuller slotted two for visitors Combe, and Tom Platt two for the home side.
It was 6-3 to Richmond at half-time and they grabbed the only other scores with 20 minutes to go when they put winger James Greenwood in at the corner for the game’s only try, which Platt converted.
Neither side could conjure any other scoring chances as both defences held firm and secure.
Richmond continue their push for the title, while Combe’s consolation was a losing bonus point.
