HOPE Powell was back in Greenwich this week to promote a community sports programme.
The former international footballer and England women’s national football team returned to the first place she played sport, Harriott Close in Greenwich.
Powell spoke about her experience growing up playing football in an area of the estate known as ‘The Cage’ and then met youngsters at the Barclays Spaces for Sport site at Lilian Bayliss on Lollard Street.
Barclays has launched My Space for Sport to continue to raise awareness of its community sports programme, Barclays Spaces for Sports.
The campaign draws upon leading sports stars, actors, and musicians to share the places that they first played sport and highlight the facilities available through the Barclays initiative, providing sustainable sports sites to disadvantaged communities.
