White Hart take Rileys Woolwich to the wire in cup

This week the South London & Kent Pool Alliance league action took a backseat as the quarter final of The Founders Cup took over, with the tie of the round being the Division One runaway leaders White Hart taking on third place in the Premier Division Rileys Woolwich.

It was a close game with the Premier Division side winning the first two sets by 3 frames to 2 in each set.

Ernie Wellhausen and Alex Thompson won the first two frames of the final set to tie the score but Rileys won the next with Ian Cruwys taking the penultimate frame to force the final frame decider.

White Hart’s captain Scott Shephard took on recent Singles runner up Clive Black who won the frame in controversial fashion to send Rileys Woolwich through to the semi final by 8 frames to 7.

They will meet O’Connors who beat bottom of Division One Glenmore Arms II 8-3 who done well to get the three.

Rileys A made it three out of three for Premier sides against Division One opposition as they breezed past Kings Arms 8-2.

It was a night of no nonsense pool as London County Junior Stephen Kelly won two frames without giving his opponents a shot while Adam Coppen also had one ‘break and dish’.

This win means the current top two in the Premier Division will meet each other in the semi final as Brockleians beat Bellegrove Social Club A 8-1.

It was a great team performance with Sean O’Connor producing a lovely ‘break and dish’, while Lee Munden won his first frame since October, which may have had something to do with having his new girlfriend in attendance, hopefully she can bring him more luck in the future.

So no surprises in the cup this year as the top four sides in the Premier Division make the semi finals.

White Hart Reserves stay top of the SLKPA Reserve League despite their second successive 6-6 draw, this week against The Crown.

Royal Standard stay in second by three points even though they lost 7-5 this week to Pickwick Academicals.

Chris Bracey produced the league’s fifth ‘break and dish’ of the night for the Academicals while Alan Hawkins made an excellent finish in the winning frame, despite this player of the night has to be Standard’s Dean Cooper who won four of their five frames.

The Academicals are three points behind their opponents with a game in hand while Crown are one point behind them, also with a game in hand.
