DOUBLE Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes is to make a guest appearance at Brands Hatch this weekend for rounds nine and ten of the FIA Formula Two championship.

The Kent athlete, who won two gold medals at the Athens Olympics games in 2004, will be the guest of honour at the prestigious event which start tomorrow.

Kelly will join fellow guests for the pre-race grid walk at the 2.3m Grand Prix circuit meeting drivers such as title leader Mirko Bortolotti and British hopefuls Jack Clarke and Alex Brundle, son of BBC F1 commentator Martin.

She will also make the podium presentations to the winning drivers on Saturday.

Holmes said: “I’m delighted to be attending my first ever Formula Two event and at Brands Hatch, which is my local circuit.

“I have a lot of respect for racing drivers as, like Olympic athletes, they have to be incredibly fit in order to cope with the G-forces developed by the cars.

“It will be great to see them in action around the Brands Hatch track as most people won't know that I am hoping to get into racing myself.

“Maybe one of them can give me a few tips."

Tickets for this weekend’s event are still available with Saturday admission priced from just £12 and £21 on Sunday with children aged 12 and under going free all weekend.
