GRAVESHAM Fencing Club members returned home with medals from the Leon Paul junior series and London region novice epee championships.

George Philips took first place in the U13 boys' epee ahead of club-mate Tyler Lucas in eighth, while Joe Joyner was second in U17 boys’ epee at the Leon Paul junior series at Kings School in Canterbury last Sunday.

The event was the latest leg of a national contest which allows competitors to collect points to climb up the ranking tables and win prizes.

Lucas is currently ranked joint first in the U13 boys’ competition.

At the London region novice championship at Brunel University, Uxbridge, Scott Greenwood took the silver medal in the men’s epee, with Dave Bardo and Colin Bell both eliminated at the quarter-final stage following close direct elimination fights.

Colin Bell also competed in the men’s foil where he was ranked ninth in a field of 23 before going out in the direct elimination round.
