BIG time motocross returns to famous Swanley circuit Canada Heights on March 27 when round two of the Maxxis British motocross championships come to Kent, with the meeting again being backed by News Shopper.

Sidcup & District Motorcycle Club has been running off-road motorcycle meetings since 1938 at Canada Heights.

Hidden in the shadow of the M25, the wooded venue boasts unrivalled viewing and all-round access for the spectators who like to find the more remote parts of the track for watching and taking spectacular photos.

Teams from manufacturers Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, KTM, Husqvarna, CCM and TM will all be competing in what is recognised as the world’s top domestic moto cross championship.

Shaun Simpson, the 2008 MX2 British champion, has made the decision to continue his build-up for his world championship race campaign in the UK after signing up to race the first two rounds of the British Championship.

His decision gives UK fans the added bonus of watching the next British hopeful at the Swanley track.

The inclusion of Simpson to the MX1 (450cc bikes) starting line-up for the opening rounds of the championship will see him lining up against the likes of Stephen Sword, the 2010 MX1 runner-up and 2009 MX2 champion.

2009 MX1 champion Brad Anderson, Jason Dougan, Gordon Crockard, Tom Church, Alex Snow, Nez Parker, Gert Krestinov, Alfie Smith, Martin Barr, Kristian Whatley, Mattis Karro and Graeme Irwin are all looking for a strong start to the MX1 title chase.

The MX2 (250cc bikes) class has talent right through the entry and includes last year’s champion Zach Osborne.

Osborne will ride as 338 but effectively with the number one plate, with his main challenger likely to be Jake Nicholls.

Elliot Banks Browne, Mel Pocock, Neville Bradshaw, Shane Careless, Alan Keet, Arnaud Tonus, Ray Rowson, Connor Walkley, Steven Clarke, Kayne Lamont and Erki Kahro are all likely to be taking some major point scoring positions.

The spectacular eight-round national series is televised by Sky Sports and attracts the finest motocross riders in the country, with some of the British teams fielding international riders who also compete in the world Grand Prix series.

Spectators heading to Canada Heights can start off the day with the free paddock walkabout.

This allows fans to meet the riders and get autographs, watch mechanics preparing for the races, see the bikes checked over in the official testing areas, pick up posters and stickers and soak up the electric atmosphere.

There is an extensive shopping village where spectators can pick up a bargain for all things motocross related.

Timed practice, half a dozen championship races and podium presentations mean there will never be a dull moment in this already hectic day.

Campers and motorhomes are all welcome with no extra charges, and there is camping in the orchard adjacent to the track.

This is a great event for all the family, with tickets encouraging them to attend together at £45 for a family ticket.

Adult admission is £20, £15 for concessions and children £5.
