BEXLEY and Greenwich girls returned with medals from the London Youth Games indoor cricket finals at Lord’s on Sunday.

As defending champions, Bexley always fancied their chances of beating Barnet in the final when they bowled out their opponents for 52 runs in a 10-over match.

But Bexley were subsequently dismissed just two runs short of their opponents’ total, meaning they had to settle for runners-up spot.

Earlier in the day, they had beaten Greenwich on their way to the last two after Greenwich were dismissed for 36.

Greenwich had secured a medal after a quarter-final success over Ealing, as they hit 108 runs in their 10-overs, the highest score of the day in the girls’ competition.

They then restricted their opponents to just 72.

Greenwich team manager Len Sales said: “Our best three batters got out for low scores against Bexley.

“The bowling was good, but we just didn’t do what we can do, so I am disappointed for them because they didn’t play to their potential.”
