WESTCOMBE Park romped to a huge home win over basement side Newbury on Saturday, writes Bruce McKenzie.

The hosts scored 11 tries and secured the bonus point within quarter of an hour.

Newbury were not at the races, although they had one first half try and two consolation late scores at the finish.

For Combe, winger Tom Hockedy had a hat-trick, as did centre John Coleman.

Man-of-the-match Zane Winslade collected a brace and there were further scores from Tim Kavanagh, Kieran Leeper and Reid Bradford.

Paul Trendell kicked five conversions and Luke Giles added three more.

A burst of four tries in the first quarter effectively won the game, although there were periods in the second half when the home team lost a little momentum.

There was plenty of running rugby and good support play, with the forwards supplying a constant stream of possession.

This was Combe’s first home win of the season and a confident one at that, building on improving form over the last few games.

Westcombe Park travel to Clifton on Saturday for a National League Two South fixture, kick-off 2.30pm.
