The final league week of the South London & Kent Pool Alliance and all of the promotion, relegation and honours issues were decided with O’Connors and Bellegrove winning their respective divisions in style.

In the SLKPA Premier Division O’Connors went to the Coach & Horses knowing they had to win by two more frames than the Pickwick and four more frames than Eardley Arms to secure the title and they gave their rivals a difficult task by running away with a 12-3 victory.

Eardley must have thought they were in with a shout when they also won 12-3 against Fox Under the Hill, who finish second bottom and face next Winter Season in Division One.

Eardley will have to be content with third after Pickwick beat Rack Pack 10-5.

All five of their players; Paul Slater, Paul Gafa, Paul Dawson, Dean James and Martin Storey battled to each win 2 of their three frames to avenge the earlier cup whitewash by their opponents and seal the runners up spot in the league.

Bottom of the table Rileys Rovers knew it would be an uphill task against Hotshots to save themselves from relegation and they got off to a good start by taking the first set 3-2.

However Hotshots won the next set by the same score to tie the game at 5 all and Rovers ran out of steam in the last set losing all five frames to finish up 10-5 down and in the First Division next season.

Steve Krishnan was their main nemesis on the night, winning all of his 3 frames.

Elsewhere Greenwich Town Social Club climbed two places to fourth after their 10-5 victory against Rileys Lewisham, who find themselves in the end of season play off against Our Lady of the Rosary to see who plays Premier Division pool next season.

In the SLKPA First Division it was a two team battle for the championship after both Bellegrove Social Club and Erith Snooker Master 8’ers secured promotion last week.

Erith had to make up six points over the leaders as they travelled to bottom side Leather Bottle and they were making hard work of it after only taking the first set 3-2.

They must have heard Bellegrove were winning after their first set as they stepped up their game to take the second set 5-0 and the last 4-1 to win the match 12-3 with Kevin Hewitt and Paul Williams winning 3 out of 3 and Ryan West and Stephen Marsters 2 out of 2 on the night.

They had done the hard work and all that was left now was to see how Bellegrove had done.

As I mentioned above they were ahead (4-1) after the first set against visitors White Hart and they didn’t really look back taking the next two sets 3-2 and 4-1 to win the match 11-4 and take the title.

Bellegrove’s star performers on the night were Stephen Pearce winning all of his 3 frames and John Skuza winning both of his.

In the final game in the division Kings Arms took advantage of an under strength New Eltham Social Club to win 10-5 and climb a place to sixth in the table.

The SLKPA Committee would like to thank all teams and players who took part in what has turned out to be the most competitive season ever and congratulate O’Connors and Bellegrove on winning their titles and Erith Snooker Master 8’ers on gaining promotion.
