Beckenham racked up their highest points tally of the season to comfortably put away bottom of the table Chobham in this London 1 South League encounter at Balmoral Avenue last Saturday.

Playing with the slope, the home side were quick out of the blocks and when the ball was spread wide, Craig Hulls found himself in acres of space and went round the cover to score, Joe Chivers adding the conversion.

However, Beckenham were not able to learn the lesson of where they had the advantage and spent the next half hour trying to wrestle with the useful Chobham forwards, a battle that they mainly lost and during this period all that both teams had to show for it was a penalty apiece. Finally the penny dropped and the hosts started moving the ball away from the contact area. Quick ball from the top of the lineout was quickly spread wide and again Hulls was on hand to finish off an unconverted try in the corner.

Straight from the kick off Ariez Metha collected the ball and drove forward, the ball was released quickly and found Pat Wright who released skipper Luke Aylward to score the try.

The missed conversion signalled the end of the half and Beckenham went in leading by 22 to 3.

Barely five minutes into the second half the hosts struck again, quick ball from the lineout found Alex Jones in midfield and who made a half-break and managed to put away Pat Wright to run in the score in the corner, Chivers adding a fine touchline conversion.

The home side took a lineout near the Chobham line and with a classic catch and drive, the forwards drove over and Paul Roumph emerged from the pile of bodies to claim the unconverted try.

Hulls then turned provider as he made yards running through a broken field defence and released Pat Wright who dived into the corner to score, the conversion missed leaving the score at 39 to 3.

Another fine Isaac break gave Hulls the chance to complete his hat-trick, running in under the posts, Chivers adding the extras and the last score came from Aylward as he capitalised on a typical barnstorming run from the returning Pete Thorne.

The Chivers conversion took the final score to 53 to 0 and although there were other chances to score, Beckenham will be pretty happy with their days work as they head off to face the league leaders next week.
