Beckenham travelled to Bromley and eventually secured a comprehensive victory by 0 to 46. Not that it looked that way in the first half as the well organised home side kept the visitors to two tries and had several chances themselves as a series of missed penalties denied them the opportunity to take the lead.

Playing up the slope Beckenham dominated the opening exchanges but poor handling and excellent defensive cover tackling kept them scoreless early on. After fifteen minutes the visitors laid siege on the hosts line and after a series of set pieces, scrum half Luke Harding took a quick tap and fed Paul Roumph who dived through the cover to score. Pat Wright knocked over the conversion.

The next twenty minutes was stalemate before Harding broke from a scrum in centre field and fed winger Steve Benham who returned the compliment and Harding touched down for an unconverted try to leave the half-time score at 0 to 12.

After the break Beckenham reduced their error count and fly-half James Curr played the elements beautifully to set up several good attacking positions. After three minutes, with the home side trying to run the ball out of defence, Alex Jones put in a fine double tackle and with quick turnover ball Jones popped up again to feed Wright who put Chris Conlon away in the corner for an excellent try.

Ten minutes later Harding pounced on a loose ball from a Bromley scrum and raced through to score giving Wright a simple conversion and take the lead to 0 to 24. On the hour a fine catch and drive at the lineout gave Curr the chance to release his backs and some fine interlinking eventually found Conlon in some space and he romped in for an unconverted try to register his second score the day.

The next try came from a textbook catch and drive from the lineout, beautiful ball control eventually gave Roumph the opportunity to bundle over for his second try of the day and leave the visitors looking comfortable at 0 to 34. Wright then joined the try scorers as he picked up a loose ball after a Harding break and raced through to score and then add the simple conversion with less than 10 minutes remaining.

As with last week, Beckenham saved the best until last. Peter Thorne turned the ball over in the middle of the park and as Harding made another break, Christian Scade was in support and he fed Thorne who showed a deft touch as he released Benham to skip though from 40 metres for an unconverted try. This proved to be the final try of the day and leave the final score at 0 to 46 to the visitors.

Head coach Dan Leek was pleased with the result particularly the performance of some of the new boys, in particular the versatile trio of Liam Markey, Liam Caddy and stand-in hooker Harry Denton.

However, Leek acknowledged that the team would need to reduce their error count if they are to make an impact in the league.
