WESTCOMBE Park are preparing to hold their 36th annual mini-rugby festival, one of the most highly regarded and successful youth festivals in the south east.

Starting at 10am at Goddington Dene on April 18, the competition is one of the highlights of the south of England’s mini-rugby calendar The Orpington club are expecting more than 1,700 children aged from under-sevens to under-12s to take part from 20 clubs across London and the home counties.

All the action will be played out on 24 pitches, with 26 referees and untold volunteers, including Orpington Air Training Corp.

Together with parents, supporters and coaches, more than 4,500 people are due to descend on Goddington Dene for a day of competition and fun which will see 250 rugby games.

Westcombe Park has become one of Kent’s most successful clubs in the last decade.

The club is also very active in youth rugby in the area, providing coaching for youngsters from the age of six through to 19 and fielding youth sides at 12 different age groups.

Westcombe Park’s aim is to help children enjoy rugby in a safe and friendly environment, as well as helping them improve their game whatever their ability.
