HUNDREDS of fans descended on Plumstead Common for Greenwich's first-ever rugby 7s competition.
Dubbed the St George's 7s and held in front of more than 200 spectators, the day of competition was a great success.
Playing were three Greenwich sides as well as Shootershillians, Footscray, Sweet Chilli Peppers, Old Williamsonians from Rochester and Orpington.
Footscray won overall beating Sweet Chilli Peppers 38-12 in the final.
Greenwich's first team won the secondary bowl competition, beating Old Williamsonians 17-5.
Greenwich RFC spokesman said: "Events such as this give a good profile for small clubs like ourselves.
"Rugby becomes an all-day event, making it a good family day out for players and their friends.
"We had more than 200 people watching, which is a great crowd for a Kent Division Three club."
Organised by Army officer Martin Bowden-Williams and Greenwich RFC, it is hoped the event will become an annual fixture for the area.
