A YOUNGSTER punched above his weight to win his second British title this year.

Coopers Technology School pupil Stephen Looker, 13, from Eltham, won the Muay Thai British Junior title in the under-53kg category, having won the under-50kg title eight months ago.

The youngster, who trains three times a week at Keddles Gym in Orpington, fought five tough rounds in front of more than 500 spectators at Torquay's Riviera Conference Centre at the end of October.

Stephen's unanimous victory was the sixth of a burgeoning kick-boxing career, which only began three years ago after switching from boxing following a visit to an exhibition.

Mum Terri was naturally delighted with her son's performance, saying: "He plans to move up another weight again next time, and hopefully he'll claim that title too."

Keddles, in Chelsfield Lane, Orpington, is thought to boast the largest number of members of any gym of its kind in the country, with more than 800 currently on its books.

The gym also has five full-time instructors, who teach every day of the week. Owner Alan Keddle is always on the lookout for sponsors and new recruits interested in Thai boxing.
