Erith and Belvedere took advantage of other sides' forays in the FA Trophy to climb three places in the Southern League Division One East.

Their 1-0 away win against Leighton Town saw Deres leapfrog near-neighbours Dartford and Sittingbourne into 16th place, four points clear of the relegation zone.

The only goal of the game was scored in the 62nd minute by the impressive Chris Dickson, who held off the challenge of two defenders before finding the back of the Leighton net with a low shot.

Until that point, the home team had perhaps looked the more likely of the two sides to break the deadlock, but their approach play and finishing in the final third let them down time and again.

In particular McNulty, Somers and Kinsley were guilty of missing golden opportunities.

But the longer the game wore on the better the away side played, with Dean Fenton in particular having a solid game .

Indeed, it was Fenton who tested Clark in the Leighton goal just a matter of minutes before the Deres had taken the lead.

And once they had gone ahead, if anything they looked like adding to their tally rather than conceding, and ultimately they ran out reasonably comfortable winners.

It was the Deres' fourth win from 14 games played, though their goal difference of minus ten must still be a cause of some concern.

Next Saturday, the Deres are again in Southern League Eastern Division action when they travel to play Barking & East Ham United, who currently lie in fifth place.
