PARALYMPIAN swimmer Dervis Konuralp was a welcome guest at Orpington Ojays Swimming Club’ awards evening.
Konuralp brought along his collection of 14 international gold medals to show the club swimmers, who themselves had produced some outstanding performances during 2009 under the direction of head coach Simon Coe.
The White Horse league title was retained, while the younger swimmers won Division Two of the North Kent Junior League to move into Division One.
Good team performances in each of the three rounds of the National Arena Swimming League had culminated in the runner-up position in Division One and promotion to the Premier Division for the first time in nine years.
The principal award winners were: Top U14 swimmer: Henry Choong.
Most promising swimmer: Michael Jacobs.
All round excellence: Christopher Miles and Georgia Harris.
Top swimmers over the year: Emily Coe and Oliver Coe.
Martin Fowler Trophy: Lewis Groombridge and Sophie Blundell.
Ruth West Trophy for club input: Rebecca Harvey.
Powis Trophy: Oliver Randall.
Head coach Trophy: Katie Davis and James May.
The awards were completed by the presentation to the club of the SWIM 21 reaccreditation certificate by Jemma Konuralp from the London ASA.
