A WILMINGTON Grammar School pupil recently returned home with a gold medal from the WIKF European karate championships in Nicosia, Cyprus.
Ben Coward, 16, from Dartford, added this prestigious crown to the spectacular list of other titles that he has claimed this year.
These include the English national title, gold at the Welsh international championships, and victory in the Belgium international open.
Coward, who is also the reigning WIKF world champion, said: “I feel very blessed and proud of my achievements, as I am at the pinnacle of my sport.
“Every sportsman’s main goal in their career is Olympic success, so I am certain if given the opportunity I would definitely want to represent Great Britain at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Games if karate were to receive Olympic status.”
Coward, who is a member of the Lea Valley Karate Academy, will soon be back to training with the English national elite team for his next major competition in Turkey in February.
