BEXLEY’S best young boxers will battle top class opposition from around the country at Bexleyheath School on Saturday, looking to show they have what it takes to follow in the footsteps of new world champion David Haye.

The amateur show, put on by Body Shots Amateur Boxing Club in Crayford, will see three English schoolboy champions from the News Shopper area in action.

Archie Sharp, 14, from Welling, is rated as one of the brightest stars in the country.

He has won 21 of 22 fights with his only defeat coming on a countback in the European Championships.

Also on the bill will be English champions Joe Smith, who is a pupil at Bexleyheath School, and Hextable's Albert Lee.

The show is being put on by Richard Sawyer, who runs the Body Shots gym with professional trainers Lee Wilkins and Archie Dublin.

Sawyer believes after watching his young stars in action, more will be inspired to try the sport out.

He said: “This is a great chance to see the future stars of boxing.

“All ages, abilities and sexes are welcome at our gym because we want to be a positive influence in the community.

“It is just as rewarding for us to see the kids develop as it is to see them win titles.”

The show takes place at Bexleyheath School on November 14 and admission is £10 for adults and £5 for under-16s.
