SAXON Crown Masters Swimming Club capped their most successful season by becoming the top club at the recent Medway Open gala.
A full strength team of 23 swimmers from the Ladywell-based club beat off tough competition from Kent’s biggest masters outfit Royal Tunbridge Wells Monson to win the gala by a convincing nine points.
All the Saxon swimmers won at least one medal and the club won 31 events, setting a total of 42 personal best times.
There were too many outstanding swims to single out individual swimmers but special mention goes to Bruce Sharp, who had an outstanding leg in the mixed medley relay to bring back yet another gold.
Saxon Crown ended the season on a high note the following week at the ASA Masters’ British national championships. They won three medals at the gala, had 18 top 10 finishes and set 35 personal best times.
The fantastic performance improvement reflects the increased training by the athletes, but is also the result of the enormous commitment of coach John Eady.
