STONE Lodge Indoor Bowls & Halls Bowls Club in Dartford will be hosting a free event next month as part of a Dartford Borough Council initiative to encourage more people to play the sport.

The club, in Cotton Lane, will stage the session between 10.30am and 3.30pm on September 26.

There will be an opportunity to learn and play bowls through the free sessions on offer throughout the day.

Following a complimentary taster, participants can watch some experienced adult and junior bowling talent in action.

There will also be an information stand, where you can learn more about the game of bowling and its three disciplines - short mat, indoor and outdoor.

The event has been co-ordinated by the Kent Bowls Partnership, representing all five County Bowls Associations, and is supported by Dartford Borough Council and Kent Sport, Leisure & Olympics Service.

Bowls England and the English Indoor Bowling Association are also helping to sponsor the event in the hope it will attract new players of all ages to the game.

John Russell, a member of the Kent Bowls Partnership, explained: “This is a great opportunity to watch how the different bowls codes are played and decide which one maybe for you.

“Or perhaps if you are already a bowler, it may entice you to attempt another version of the game.

“With both adults and juniors competing, we are hoping to attract families to the event to demonstrate how it’s a great game for everybody.

“There is no need to book, just turn up.”
