MORE than 700 competitors took part in Sunday’s annual Crystal Palace Triathlon at the Crystal Palace Park and National Sports Centre.

It is the fifth consecutive year Crystal Palace Triathletes Club have hosted the race.

The contest was also open to junior competitors for the first time, with more than 120 children aged between eight and 16 taking part.

The 750m swim section of the adult race also had a welcome return to the National Sports Centre’s newly refurbished 50m pool.

After nine laps around the park, all competitors ran to the finish line within the stadium.

Timothy Male from Thames Turbo-Sigma Sport was the first man home, while the women’s race was won by Parys Edwards from Ful-On Triathlon Club.

There were prizes for male and female veterans and super-veterans, as well as for all of the junior age categories.

Following the success of what was believed to be the first UK carbon-neutral race in 2008, Crystal Palace Triathletes maintained its commitment to ensure the event was carbon neutral.
