BEXLEY District Girls’ under-13s cricket team hosted Gravesend Grammar School in an indoor kwik cricket match on Saturday at Townley Grammar School for Girls.

This was Gravesend’s first ever cricket match and they came away with a very creditable 91-run victory.

Bexley were made up of mainly Year 6 and Year 7 girls with the visitors being mainly Year 8 pupils who proved to be a little bigger and stronger on the day but it was a very enjoyable match.

The home side recording 239 runs, with Gravesend reaching 330.

There is no organised cricket for girls in the Gravesend area and it is hoped Bexley could be instrumental in instilling some inspiration to girls from that area to take up the game.

The visiting team were given information on the various initiatives for girls cricket in the Bexley area.

It is hoped some of them may wish to take the game up and play for a one of the two new teams being set up in the borough for the forthcoming outdoor season at Bexley Cricket Club at Manor Way and Sidcup Cricket Club at Crescent Farm, Sydney Road.
