Swimmers turned out in force at Eltham Pools for the Greenwich Borough Championships.

The clubs represented were Greenwich Borough Mariners, Greenwich Swimming Club, Eltham Stingrays, Beckenham and White Darts.

There were some outstanding performances with previous borough records sent tumbling and countless personal bests swum on the day.

Champions in four events were: Tony Evans (GBM) 15/16 years class, borough records in butterfly, backstroke and freestyle; Chloe Hart (GBM) 12 years, borough records in backstroke and freestyle; Courtney Carter (Beck) 15/16 years, borough butterfly record.

Champions in three events were: Josh Pemberton-Hill (GBM) 12 years, borough record in breaststroke and freestyle; Alexandra Eastwell (GSC) 10 years backstroke.

Katie Irving (Beck) 11 years, borough record breaststroke, freestyle and butterfly)

Michael Hobson (ES) 13/14 years.

Champions in two events: Bill Evans (GBM) 11 years; Jo Riddoch (GBM) 17-plus; Kevin Arundell (GBM) 17-plus; Jannette Evans (GBM) 13/14 years; Rosa Sampson-Geroski (GBM) 13/14 years; Michael Morrison (GBM) 17-plus; and Benjamin Sales (ES) 10 years.

Champions in single events: Greg May (GBM) 11 years; Tom Dunster (GBM) 11 years; Michael Gregory (GBM) 12 years; Andrew Smith (GBM) 13/14 years; Astrid Fieldsend (GBM) 17-plus; Debbie Hart (GBM) 17-plus; Patrick Mayor (ES) 10 years; Daniel Smith (ES) 10 years; Caroline Bovey (ES) 11 years (borough record, backstroke) and Georgia Gann (ES) 10 years.

Georgia, who attends St Marys RC School and lives in Glenure Road, was swimming in her first borough championship and also had three third places in the breastroke, backstroke and freestyle.

Womens relay champions: GBM A (Astrid Fieldsend, Laura Palfrey, Debbie Hart and Jo Riddoch); Men’s relay champions: GBM A (Tony Evans, Kevin Arundell, Sam Pemberton-Hill and Michael Morrison).

Overall, Greenwich Borough Mariners had 29 individual champions, plus two relay winners, while Eltham Stingrays had nine individual champions; Beckenham, seven, and Greenwich Swimming Club, three.
