The South London & Kent Pool Alliance Founders Cup quarter-finals have been played and one team from the lower league has made it through to the semi-final.

It was definitely on the cards as Division One champions, Bellegrove Social Club played Rose Inn from the second division and all in all it was a close match but Bellegrove still won the first two sets by the odd frame, 3-2.

They went into the last set needing two frames for victory and they got those in frames twelve and thirteen, when Jason Brunton recorded his unbeaten hat-trick and Sam Pearce his second of two frame wins, to give their team the, 8-5 victory.

Bellegrove will go on to face Premier Division opposition, as all other ties were all Premiership affairs and will give them an insight before their forthcoming promotion.

Bellegrove Social Club’s sister side from the top division, Bellegrove weren’t as fortunate, losing, 8-6 to Hustlers A.

Joining Hustlers A and Bellegrove Social Club in the semi-final are Eltham Terrace Nuthouse, who won the battle of Eltham Terrace against Rovers.

It was an exciting match which swung one way then the other, as despite losing the first frame, Rovers went on to take the set by 4 frames to1 but Nuthouse whitewashed the second set to go into the third, 6-4 up.

Shane O’Reilly won his third frame of the night to give Nuthouse a, 7-4 lead but Rovers pulled one back before Louis Wilbourne gave Nuthouse the, 8-5 victory and revenge for their recent defeat to Rovers in the league.

As well as O’Reilly, Zoe Healy was also unbeaten, winning her only frame.

The other semi-finalist will be Falconwood Club as fifth played fourth placed Hotshots in an incredibly close match that went right to the wire.

Hotshots won the first set, 3-2 and took the first three frames of the second to go, 6-2 up but Falconwood fought hard and won the next five frames to take the lead for the first time in the match by 7 frames to 6.

Steve Krishnan levelled the match for Hotshots, sending it to a final frame decider, with Falconwood’s Barry Barham facing Richard Chapman from Hotshots.

Like the rest of the match, this frame was very close with both players having chances to go for game but it was Barham who played his last red along the cushion and in the pocket before rolling the black in to give his team the, 8-7 triumph.

This was a great game, played in good spirit with some high quality pool on display.

Also qualifying for the semi-final but in a different competition, the League Cup are Sharks, who went through from Group A in style with a whitewashing, 15-0 victory over Plumstead Radical Club.

It was a bad day at the office for the Radical Club but Sharks played like predators, with Eno Idiong, Arif Salih, Tony Bailey, Jeff LaPorte and Kevin Dempsey all capitalising on every chance they were given.

Edging closer to the League Cup semi-final are Bellegrove Flyers, who have gone twelve points clear at the top of Group C, after a, 12-3 victory over Academicals.

Flyers have to wait for next week’s game between Glenmore Arms and CSC Mr’s & Miss Q’s to see if they will qualify, however either team needs to score thirteen frames to go above Flyers and into the semi-final.
