Mike Conway says he is determined to have a better FIA Formula E Drivers Championship next season.

The 32-year-old Bromley-born motor racing driver ended his inaugural campaign on electric-powered cars by finishing 10th in the final round of FIA Formula E Visa London ePrix at Battersea Park last Sunday.

It turned out to be a fantastic weekend in South London for Renault e.dams as well as pocketing the team title, Sebastien Buemi became the FIA Formula E Drivers Champion and his team-mate French driver Nico Prost completed a unique double by winning the final two races on Battersea Park track.

Conway, who drives for Venturi and finished 15th in the overall standings with seven points, said: “It was looking good to be honest.

“We were in the top seven and saving loads and loads of energy.

“It was looking really good but I tried to go an extra lap longer than everyone else and it didn’t quite work out so we lost light in the pits and ended up losing four places.

“Second stint had loads of energy to waste and couldn’t pass easier enough and towards the end I had shut down on the battery twice so I stopped on the side of the track. That was a shame because we had easy top five.”

Conway recently participated in the American IndyCar Series and FIA World Endurance Championship before converting to the electric car racing discipline.

He admits he found it tough going in his first full stint in Formula E: “It’s been pretty hard to be honest,” he continues.

“I did not had many results as I would like but we did score more consistently in the last part of the season but obviously I want to do a lot better than that.”

And Conway compared the difference to Formula E and the much bigger and powerfully fuel drilled IndyCar Racing.

The British Formula 3 Champion from 2006 spent six years racing on both the oval and street tracks around North America.

“It’s pretty different but I suppose both Formula E and Indycar use a lot of street tracks but the competition is just the stuff. I’ve enjoyed my first season in Formula E and it’s been fun.”

Conway starts his 2016-17 campaign in Hong Kong on October 9.
