Blackheath & Bromley Harriers star Dina Asher-Smith insists execution will be the key to securing her dream Rio Olympic place at this weekend’s all important British Championship.

The Orpington-born sprint sensation warmed up for the defence of her domestic 100m crown by claiming a morale boosting 200m victory at Stockholm Bauhaus Athletics IAAF Diamond League meeting in Sweden last Thursday.

In her first outing of the season on the half-lap distance, the 20-year-old cruised to a comfortable looking 22.72sec on a rain-drenched Stockholm track.

Jamaica’s Simone Facey followed in 22.81 while current domestic 100m leader Desiree Henry came third in 22.88.

“It’s a decent result, I’m happy but there’s bits of my race which I definitely think I could improve on,” said Asher-Smith.

“I’ve never ran on this track before so I don’t know what it feels like but I’ll definitely take that and I’m definitely happy on where I’m at right now.”

With Olympic Team GB places up for grabs, the women’s 100m event this Saturday at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium will be the most competitive and wide open one as ever.

Besides from Asher-Smith and Henry other Olympic hopefuls to look out for are Ashleigh Nelson, Imani Lansiquot , Asha Philip, Lewisham’s Daryll Neita, Sophie Papps and Jodie Williams.

Asher-Smith gave her thoughts on her rivals but insists she is fairly confident on her chances of competing in Brazil come August.

“It’s really good that there’s so many people in this,” she added.

“It’s an Olympic year so everyone wants to make the Olympic team and that goes well not only competition for yourself as individuals but also for the relay team.

“So I’m really, really excited for the trials. The 100m event should be very interesting and hopefully I’ll make the Olympic team.

“It’s definitely a target but at the same time I’ve really got to focus on execution on the day or else I’m not going to make it.”
