Fabian Cowdrey hopes international duo Tom Latham and Kagiso Rabada can fire Kent to success this summer.

The Spitfires announced the signing of New Zealand batsman Latham as their overseas player in February.

The left-hander, who averages more than 40 in first-class cricket and has three Test centuries to his name, will play in all formats.

A member of South Africa’s T20 World Cup party, Rabada agreed to join Kent for a stint in June and July.

The 20-year-old will be eligible for six T20 Blast matches, two Championship games and one One-Day Cup fixture.

Cowdrey insists the Kent dressing room is excited to welcome the highly-rated duo to Canterbury.

“We’re all excited to welcome them both to the club,” the batsman said.

“It’s exciting as players to share a dressing room with international cricketers.

“Rabada is an incredible talent, he’s only 20 but has already proven himself for South Africa which is very impressive.

“I’ve heard [Latham] is a very nice person and clearly a top talent. It will be a great experience to play with those guys and they will help the squad.”

With Latham and Rabada strengthening a squad which already consists of the likes of Sam Northeast, Darren Stevens, Daniel Bell-Drummond and Matt Coles, Cowdrey is hopeful Kent can taste success this season.

The side have come close to numerous one-day finals over the past two years, but their form is red-ball cricket has been questionable.

“We have a young and aspirational side full of talent. We’ve got close to achieving our ambitions in the last few years, hopefully now we can go one step further,” the 23-year-old said.

“It’s about delivering in those pressure moments and hopefully we can do that this season.”

After a productive spell in Australia this winter, Cowdrey has his sights sets on a regular place in the Kent side.

“Of course I want to be a regular in the team – I think that’s everyone’s aim. But I also want to enjoy my cricket and take everything in my stride,” Cowdrey added.

“My bowling became a pretty big part of my game last season. It’s important, especially in T20 cricket, to keep developing so that’s an area that I really want to keep working on.

“I take my bowling seriously and want to contribute for Kent with the ball as well as with the bat.”

Kent's Specsavers County Championship season starts on Sunday with a trip to Worcestershire, while the Spitfires’ one-day campaign begins in May with a NatWest T20 Blast clash against Somerset.

Kent return to the County Ground, Beckenham on June 3 and 5 with one-day games against Gloucestershire and Surrey. Tickets are now available at the Kent website.
