Crystal Palace have reportedly been handed a boost in their pursuit of former Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor, with Watford holding reservations about a move.

The Hornets, 12th in the Premier League table, were said to have opened talks with Spurs last month over a deal for the forward.

Despite their impressive start to life in the top flight, Watford have lost four consecutive matches and boss Quique Sanchez Flores was believed to be hoping to sign Adebayor to provide in-form duo Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo with some back-up.

However, the Evening Standard say that Flores, 50, has reservations about bringing the Togo international to the club.

With Watford possibly dropping out of the hunt for the ex-Tottenham and Arsenal man, Palace are now favourites to secure his services.

Eagles boss Alan Pardew is desperate to bolster his attacking options this January after witnessing his team fail to score in five Premier League games.

Adebayor, 31, scored 18 goals in 59 league games for Spurs before his contract was released by mutual consent in September.

Despite failing to find a new club in the past five months, Adebayor has been training on his own and is keen to rejuvenate his career in the top flight.
