A football team has put in an application to transform a Chislehurst park into their training ground.

The Cray Wanderers FC, currently top of The Ryman Football League, division north, have expressed interest in turning Flamingo Park, off the Sidcup-By-Pass, into their new home.

In the planning application submitted to Bromley Council, the proposals include demolishing the existing structures and building a two or three storey football stadium.

The 11-a-side pitch would be capable of accomodating 2,000 people.

Plans also include a kitchen, bar, gym, changing rooms, offices and meeting rooms within the stadium, and an additional building to house changing rooms.

MORE TOP STORIES Two community sport pitches would be included, while the existing three football pitches would be relocated inside the park.

But alongside the sporting facilities, two four-storey blocks of flats comprising of 28 two bedroom flats are planned, including four penthouses, with underground parking.

Stadium car-parking with enough room for 393 cars is also part of the development.

The consultation ends on January 7 next year, with a decision expected at the end of the month, although it could be decided as late as February.

According to the application there is currently there is a nightclub venue on site, and the park also plays host to boot fairs, circuses, funfairs, a motorcycle school and a double glazing company.

These, alongside other ventures, would cease to exist there, but a boot camp, gym and a pitch available for hire will remain.

Gary Hillman, chairman of Cray Wanderers FC, said: “We are totally committed to delivering Cray Wanderers FC’s future through our new stadium and multi-sports complex.

"And we believe the first team, the ‘Cray in the Community’ scheme, youth teams and academy in association with Coopers School, will become a landmark example of how community, education and sport can inspire within our society.”

The name of the park would also change from Flamingo to Foxbury, and the application from the club follows a previously unsuccessful one for Sandy Lane.

Having only lost three games in 27, the plans envisage a site for the Wanderers to play and train within their current league, but also meeting their needs should they get promoted.
