Bromley Tennis Centre hosted their very first Community Tennis Festival last week in celebration of the opening of a brand new airdrome facility.

The state of the art “bubble” will allow the club’s ten courts to transform into an indoor facility every winter, increasing the opportunity for local players to enjoy the game all year round.

The festival provided an opportunity for local residents to view the high-tech facilities and receive some coaching from the club’s qualified coaches.

Sarah Langford, Deputy General Manager of the centre, said: “Following a week of tennis taster sessions in six local primary schools, more than 170 school children took up the invitation to go to the centre and have yet more fun with inflatable tennis targets and mini courts, hitting hands, and mini rallying courts.

“On Sunday 250 people of all ages rolled up for the community festival and the tennis centre team of coaches and leaders led various activities for all ages. They were encouraged to get involved in tennis more regularly and more than 80 signed up.”

The airdrome facility was funded by the Lawn Tennis Association and its president, Cathie Sabin, was on hand to official open the airdrome.

“The bubble has been funded by the Tennis Foundation and the LTA whose support for the centre is much appreciated by everyone at the centre,” Langford added.

“Bromley is considered to be one of the best centres of its kind in the country. As well as pay and play, coaching and competitions, the centre offers a performance training programme and a disability tennis programme.
